Ministry of Interior and Novell sign a strategic collaboration agreement

Volker Smid, prezident Novellu EMEA, stihl na návštěvě ČR prohlédnout nové NTS centrum v Praze; podepsal také smlouvu o strategické spolupráci s ministrem Ivanem Langerem

Prague, Czech Republic – June 25, 2008 – In context of a decision of the Government of the Czech Republic, the Minister of Interior Ivan Langer signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Novell Ireland Software Limited as another contract signed with a vendor of state-of-the-art communication technologies. The Ministry of Interior undertook to employ only properly licensed software and promote the use of properly licensed software across all levels of government and education. The agreement is yet another strategic partnership that should result in cost savings for the public administration.

“Through the strategic collaboration agreement we signed with Novell yesterday, we want to promote information and communication technologies in general as well as increasing awareness and knowledge of these technologies among the citizens of the Czech Republic. All existing agreements will now be covered by a simple, transparent and mutually beneficial relationship. We are building a collaboration that should help to improve the use of information and communication technologies in the public administration. This long-term collaboration should also support e-Government services,” stated the Minister of Interior Ivan Langer.

“Novell is very pleased that the Ministry of Interior and Novell entered into this agreement which sets the framework for long term cooperation between Novell and public institutions of the Czech Republic. Novell develops and manufactures infrastructure software which helps many governments to solve their challenge with implementation of eGovernmental solutions. I believe that this Agreement is the first step and a solid base for fruitful cooperation,” quoted Volker Smid, Novell EMEA President on the occasion of signature.

“This moment is very important for Novell in Czech Republic, it sets new horizons for our cooperation with public administration,” quoted Ales Kucera, Country Manager of Novell.

The Strategic Collaboration Agreement defines general conditions and requirements on long-term collaboration between both parties in relation to use of Novell’s products by public institutions in the Czech Republic and providing Novell’s software product licenses and support to public institutions. The Ministry of Interior and Novell further agreed on potential collaboration in view of the creation of a Clearing Center that would consolidate data about all Novell’s products and services to enable the Ministry remote access to a system containing an overview of all Novell’s products procured by public institutions.
